Awareness Method with Andrew Wright

Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® classes
are a pleasant, interesting and effective way to improve movement ability,
expand awareness, heal from injury, reduce pain, address physical restrictions,
and increase emotional quality and expression.
Andrew Wright brings over 20 years of experience in Feldenkrais and bodywork,
and a warm, personal and knowledgeable style to his teaching and healing
work.
The Feldenkrais Method®
Unlike many forms of bodywork, the Feldenkrais Method works primarily
through the nervous system. Using the same approach to body learning that
we all used as babies, the nervous system reprogrammed to break counter
productive habits, and to promote skeletally based movement. When the
skeleton is doing its job correctly, the muscles are more relaxed and
act more powerfully.
Originally developed by noted physicist and judo master, Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais
in the 1940s, the method offers both group classes and hands on work.
Many people find relief from injuries and limitations; others achieve
more skilled movement, or improve expression or awareness.

Group classes
Andrew talks you through movement sequences, demonstrating when necessary.
The classes are generally very pleasant, and give a greater sense of well
being and awareness. Each series of classes follows a theme, such as removing
stress from the body, or the neck and shoulders, and each class is different,
and systematic in an often non-linear way. The goal is greater awareness
and to improve the unconscious use of the self. Unlike most types of movement
classes, students do not attempt to copy the teacher, or to achieve an
idealized movement, but rather improve relative to their starting point.
Andrew has been teaching Feldenkrais classes since 1988.
Hands
on sessions
Andrew uses hands on guidance to address habits and issues that would
take longer to resolve in a class setting. You wear loose fitting comfortable
clothing, and lie on a padded table. Sometimes you may be sitting or standing.
Sessions are gentle and pleasurable. The goal is more than relieving tension
or feeling good (although that usually happens), it is improving how you
connect to your body. Andrew has given over 20, 000 sessions and can help
people with a wide variety of concerns.
